Selected Personal Achievements

- Design Principal for a development team's proposal of a $280 million Hastings College of the Law development. Synthesized a very complex program with requirements that appeared impossible to meet. (Superior Courts, office building, student housing, low-cost housing, retail, and the ultimate dream of a real campus). Proposed the unorthodox solution of stacking the required functions to meet the requirements and to achieve the school's dream of a suburban campus by using the roof.

Result: Enthusiastically selected as the best design proposal for the project.

- Directed, coordinated and designed construction projects for several architectural firms. Discovered solutions by matrixing value judgments of numerous alternatives which often included conflicting requirements of function, scale, codes, costs and clients wishes.

Result: Solved the program challenges with design options that often far exceeded the clients expectations of what could be possible within their budgets.

- Design consultant to a team which included that firm's chief project architect and head interior designer. Working together we crossed over the typical individual egocentric boundaries that are so typical in the design profession.

Result: Completed six nationally published major projects that were successful far beyond our clients' dreams, in less than our allotted time and cost budgets. It was a happy and rewarding experience for all the team members who have continued to be close and respected friends.

- Managing Principal of an old-line architectural firm, instilling in it new and dynamic directions for the future. Hired new team-motivated employees, enabling us to pursue and execute projects of a type and size not thought feasible, with a high quality of design.

Result: Empowered the employees with an enthusiastic commitment to their work.

- Organized and directed the design of complex multi-floor space-planning projects including attorney offices, an advertising office and a 27 floor Electronic Banking Facility. Led teams in a systems model to investigate all the possibilities and to establish priorities, evaluate options and subsequently refine alternate solutions.

Result: Design team and clients were able to investigate questions and subsequent solutions that they could never have imagined previously.
