The Phillip Burton Crescent, Design Competition - San Francisco, CAThe Phillip Burton Design Competition requirements were to revitalize and add today's required security to the bland and windy plaza entry plaza of the Federal Building. This thesis is a contemporary interpretation of a crescent-shaped classical colonnade with an electronic billboard that rises gracefully to the building's now-secure main entrance. The crescent is situated between the forecourt that is paved as an unfurled American flag and a natural Sierra-mountain-like park, juxtaposing the formality of the Federal Building with California's beautiful natural environment and blending the formal function of the Federal Building with its larger environment.
